Guided hunt with new hunters gsp upland hunt at Coon Creek Hunt Club

Had a large group of new hunters out for a guided hunt.  All new hunters in five fields.  Each field has 9 birds released and my group saw all there birds and took 4 home. Not bad for a first hunt.  See the picture of all the birds the group took.  This puts Willow to 386 and Autumn to 294.

Went out and last minute mark decided to join me
  It was a four bird release just to keep the dogs moving.  Ended up taking 14 home
  Missed a few also.  A great day to hunt.  It was the first snow day of the year.  This putts Willow to 384 and autumn to 292.  Great day in the field.

Got out with Uncle John to see if we could get his Gertie to start hunting.  She has been fearful of lots of things.  Decided to just get her all excited by putting some chuckers out and letting her flush them without shooting.  She got so birdy doing that we pushed her into the field a bit more to see if we could find some pheasants to shoot. She ended up pointing three but poor old uncle John couldn't hit a bird today. I brought autumn out at this point and she pointed two that I shot.  Puts her to 287. Willow then came out and pointed one real quick to put her to 377.  She was mad she was the last dog out, but she needed a soft hunt.  It was a great day to find some extra birds running around.

Got out on a nice guide last week. Forgot to post it.  Ended up taking 10 birds on a great hunt.  The dogs worked well and showed us where the birds were.  A few missed in between and some great shots.  I still love watching the dogs work a field.  Willis is up to   376 And Autumn is at 285.  A great day in the field!

Guided hunt at Coon Creek Hunt Club with two kids on their firsr hunt! 11/20/16

Got out on a great guided hunt today. These two great dads decided to get their kids involved in the great outdoors. Willow and Autumn worked hard today.  They did a great job pointing birds for two new hunters. The kids did a great job and seemed to learn a lot about upland hunting.  They each had many good shots and downed some birds. We took 12 birds today and even got a chucker. This puts Willow at 371 and Autumn up to 280. We only brought Autumn out for part of the hunt. The best part of the day was a double point of a hen at the edge of the creek.  The bird flew over, everyone shot, the bird dropped and both dogs launched into the creek to cross it to the bird. Autumn brought it back. It was awesome seeing them work today, and we finally had some weather that did not burn them up.  It stayed below freezing all morning, but that was the perfect hunting temp.  Thanks for a great hunt guys!

Veterans Day 2016 gsp and pointing lab at Coon Creek

got out on Veterans Day with Gerry and his pointing lab. If either of us could have shot it would have been a great day.  We were both missing a lot of birds, but it was a blast as we have been talking about getting out with the dogs. I give each dog one bird for the day, but they pointed way more.  That brings Willow 363 up to and Autumn up to 276.

Guided hunt at Coon Creek with the gsp bird dogs

had a great hunt last weekend.  10 bird release.  Dogs pointed way more.  Ended up bagging 12 with a few missed birds.  Both dogs were on fire on a warm day. The each were on a ton of points.  I am giving them each 7 of the birds we took.  Many double points today.  Dogs were even able to pin down some moving birds so the guys had a shot at them. Great day all around. Willow is up to 362 and Autumn is up to 275.

10/30/16 First guided hunt of the season. Dogs are on!

Did the first guided hunt.  Willow was on Fire.  She pointed 5 of the six birds we took.   Autumn took a little while but then turned on pointing a couple of birds but we only bagged one.  A great day in the field. Willows total is 355 and Autumn is up to 268. A great day in the field!

Last GSP german shorthair pointer hunt at Coon Creek on 4/1/16

Had my last guide for the season.  Was all set to see Willow hit 350, but right before we left for the hunt she ripped off part of her nail and the quick was exposed.  Had to leave the poor thing home.  Autumn got to go with two dogs the guys brought. She pointed a lot of the birds today, but it was hard to keep track with running he with two flushers.  I am going to giver her 10 conservatively, knowing the number was much higher.  It puts her up to 267.  I was real happy to see how she worked with two dogs she never met before.

Late post. A few weeks old. GSP upland pheasant hunt at Coon Creek

Got out with a good group of guys.  Dogs ended up with 18 birds.  Seems like they each were on point for at 10.  Some double points.  A good day in the field. This puts Willow up to 346 and Autumn to 257.  A fun time.  Willow was also very confused pointing her first reptile.

Hunt with mark

Got out with Mark for a cleanup hunt.  The birds were running harder than I have seen in a long time.  Temps were in the low 60's, which was a bit warm for the dogs.  We ended up seeing 8 and shooting 4. It was a fun day in the field and I had a great time. Willow got up to 336 and Autumn is at 247.  I have a guided hunt scheduled for this weekend, which probably will be the last hunt I do this year.

Season winding down. A few hunts to post with my german shorthair pointers GSP

Well after this hunt Willow got up to 334 and Autumn is up to 245.  It was a hard hunt in a light rain but the temps are starting to go up so the birds are running everywhere.  The group I guided had a good time and took some nice birds.  I think two more hunts to post for this season and that will be it.

3/7/16 hunt at coon creek with some friends

Ended up doing a hunt.  Released 15 birds and took 15.   Missed a good handful today though.  Dogs did good with the birds running hard.  Each got up six and some just popped up. Willow is up to 326 and Autumn is up to 237.  Just a few weeks left in the season.  Let's see if we get any more this year.

2/27/16 guided pheasant hunt at Coon Creek with german shorthair pointers.

Got out today on a 15 bird release.  The guys ended up taking 12 birds and missed four.  Had another handful get up out if range.  Some of the birds were really running today. Each dog was on 7 of the birds.  A few double points and a lot of single points and the birds would pop up.  This puts Willow to 320 and Autumn to 231.  It was a great day in the field.

2/21/16 guided pheasant hunt. Coon Creek Hunt Club GSP german shorthair pointer

Did a guided hunt the other day.  Worked the field with another guide. Birds were running.  Each dog got three.  Willow is up to 313 and Autumn is up to 224.

2/13/16 guided hunt coon creek hunt club german shorthairs on a mission

Had the dogs out on the 14th.  Guided for a grandfather, his son-in-law and grandson.  They wanted the kid,13, to get some shots off.  He was hesitant, but with a little guidance was able to get some foot shots off. He ended up hitting 4 birds.  They did a nine bird release, we took nine, and missed 6 or 7. It was a good day. Autumn went first today and took 6 over her and took 3 over Willow.  This brings Autumn to 221 and Willow to 310.  A great day to be out!

2/9/16 clean up hunt.

Got out for a clean up hunt with Mark and was surprised the birds were running hard.  Actually saw close to 15 birds fly out of out field all at 80+ yards out of range.  Ended up taking three birds with three others we should have gotten. It was a cold day out so I was happy with the three.  Willow got all three today while we missed all that Autumn pointed.  Actually, we only shot two, and picked up an injured bird that must have been shot a day before.  Willow pointed it and then in ran.  She chased it down.  When I opened it up it was full of shot, so someone must have hit it and not found it.  I am giving Willow all three birds to put her at 307.  I guess I am going to have to make it up to Autumn.

2/7/16 guided hunt at Coon Creek with German shorthaired Pointers

Got out over the weekend and did a guided hunt with a good group of guys I have guided for in the past.  They did a 12 bird release and got 13, although three were found without the dogs.  One was in the parking area when we pulled up and decided to stick around as the guys geared up, their first chucker of the year.  Willow got on five birds to put her over 300 and the. I put her back to let Autumn have some work.  She got up five birds also.  On One run with Autumn she went on point.  When one guy was walking closer to her two birds busted and he got a Double.  The. The bird Autumn was pointing got up and they got that one also.  In was a great day in the field!  This puts Willow to 304 and Autumn to 215.

Guided hunt with german shorthaired pointers at Coon Creek Hunt Club

Got out with a dad and his two kids over the weekend.  They ended up taking four birds with some misses.  It was cool to see one of his boys take his first bird.  I totally forgot to take pictures.  Willow got on all four that were taken and the last bird taken was a double point by Willow and Autumn.  Autumn missed most if the fun because I left her in the car to rotate the dogs due to ice.  Willow is up to 299 and Autumn is up to 210.  It's been a great season!

Brought the gang out for an upland hunt with the GSP

Last weekend I took out Uncle John, Will, and Mark.  We did a 12 bird release and took 9.  It was a good hunt but we all missed a few we should have hit.  I worked the camera for a while but still need to download those pics.  Each dog got 4 birds and John's golden doodle got one up.  This puts Willow  at 295 and Autumn at 209.  It was a fun day to get everyone out.

1/16/16 birthday hunt with GSP german shorthair pointers at Coon Creek hunt club.

Got out for my birthday hunt today.  Decided to take the dogs out alone for a quick run.  The hunt lasted a total of 88 minutes. Willow did great and got on birds right away.  She ended up pointing five of the birds we took.  Some if them were doubles with Autumn.  Autumn ended up on fire today and hunted half the time of Willow but pointed five of the birds we took also.  She also pointed two I missed, but I won't count those.  We also had a six bird flush but it was 40 yards ahead of us. It was a great day in the field!  Willow us up to 291 and Autumn is up to 205.

Guided hunt at Coon Creek with GSP german shorthaired pointers 1/9/16

Got out for a guided hunt with a group if good guys.  There were nine birds but in the field, six were taken home.  It was a day filled with action as about 10 birds were also missed.  It's not all about how many birds you down, it's about the fun in thei field and this group was a perfect example of that!  They had fun the whole time and didn't let it get to them when a bird got away.  Was honestly a great hunt, talking and watching the dogs work.  They were able to connect on one of Autumns birds which puts her to 200.  Willow found the other five which puts her at 286.  Really had a lot of fun with the snow falling on Saturday!
